Board of Trustees

Board of Trustees
Volunteers fill all Board of Trustee positions. Trustees are carefully selected based on demonstrated service to the School and clear commitment to Catlin Gabel’s goals and philosophies. Potential trustees are nominated by members of the School community and the Committee on Trustees and elected by the Board. Some standing and ad hoc Board committees include volunteer parents, students, faculty and alumni in addition to elected trustee members, though others are limited only to current Board members or special appointees. Listed here are those Board positions generally open for volunteer assistance. Further information on the Board of Trustees and its committees is available in the School Handbook under “Vital Elements of the School Community.”

Trustees
The twenty-four-member elected Board of Trustees and several ex-officio Board members set policy for the School and review the School’s implementation of its policies.

The Committee on Trustees
is responsible for the education and development of trustees to help them fulfill their duties, and recommends individuals for election to the board of trustees.

The Development Committee
oversees fund-raising activities, special events, alumni relations, and external relations. The committee also oversees subcommittees on external relations, admissions, marketing, public relations and communications.

The Executive Committee
is composed of the board’s officers and can act for the board when it is not possible for the entire group to convene. The committee meets regularly to prepare the agenda for board discussions.

The Finance Committee
helps develop budgets and reviews financial matters affecting the school.

The Endowment Committee
is responsible for oversight and management of the school’s endowment. Committee members, selected by the board of trustees, oversee investment policies and the performance of investment managers. The chair of the endowment committee serves as an ex officio member of the board of trustees.

All committee meetings except those of the committee on trustees and executive committee are open to the school community, as are most meetings of the board.
